Yoga
blocks are an accessory to yoga practice. Grip blocks are designed
to alleviate stress on the wrist joints during some poses, especially
the “downward dog” pose. The blocks are made to bear the
weight of your body in place of your wrists bearing the weight.
Yoga blocks can also expand your range of poses and allow for deeper
stretches. Blocks are sold with instructions at the least, and an
instructional video or DVD in the best case. You should watch a demonstration
of how to use the blocks before trying to use them yourself or you
could get hurt.
Some yoga blocks are also called ‘bricks’ but serve the
same function and which material you choose is a matter of personal
preference. Some are made from cork, some from bamboo, others from
lightweight foam. Blocks will open up a whole host of other poses
and deeper stretches.
