Vinyasa yogaIt is hard to classify Vinyasa yoga as being one particular style of yoga. It covers a wide range of yoga practices and movements. The word “vinyasa” is translated to mean “breath-synchronized movement.”

What this means for those who practice Vinyasa yoga is that as they move from one pose to the next, they need to inhale and exhale. The moves start to flow together as the student transitions from one position to the next. This is sometimes referred to as “Vinyasa flow.”

One of the movements associated with Vinyasa yoga is called a “cat-cow stretch.” It is a simple stretch. With this stretch, the spine is arched on the inhale and then rounded on the exhale.

This is different from the more complex “sun salutation” sequence. It differs because this is a whole series of movements that is done with either with an inhalation or an exhalation on each movement. The process sounds simple, but it can be difficult to train yourself to breathe with each movement.

Those who are interested in learning the practices and techniques associated with Vinyasa yoga can sign up for classes that will allow them to learn more details. If a person chooses to sign up for one of these classes, they should expect to do a lot of moving in ways that are new to them.
Because there are many variations of Vinyasa yoga, a student could be involved in a class that includes a number of quick movements or a number of slower, more deliberate movements. Some of these classes will include chanting along with the movements.
It is easy to misunderstand what Vinyasa yoga is. For example, Ashtanga and Power Yoga use many of the Vinyasa methods, but are also their own styles of yoga.
Those who choose to take a Vinyasa yoga course could wind up doing a variety of things, depending on which sub-types of Vinyasa yoga are stressed by the instructor. One of the things that those who take these courses are encouraged to do is to “go through their Vinyasa.”
To “go through a Vinyasa” means that the student should go through a series of different poses that are part of the Sun Salutation sequence. Some of the poses that are included in these sequences can include Plank, Chaturanga, and Upward Facing Dog poses.
Those who take Vinyasa yoga classes often come to see that there are many types of people in these classes with them. Teachers do not need to follow any certain philosophy, guideline or sequence. Vinyasa yoga gives both the student as well as the teacher a large degree of latitude that some other types of yoga do not.
Because of this, it is important that a student finds a teacher to whom he or she relates well. If the teacher seems to want to go a different direction with the Vinyasa yoga than you want to, then perhaps it may be better to find another teacher.
Vinyasa yoga is usually considered to be the best yoga for those people who like to keep things fresh and new during their yoga practice.
