A Pilates mat is made of thick foam and is used by people that practice Pilates. Most people purchase mats only for home use because it is common for Pilates studios to have mats on hand that can be used by students.
A Pilates mat is similar to a yoga mat in length and width. The differences between the two mats are the materials they are made of and the thickness of the mat. For Pilates a mat is usually ½ inch thick and is made of foam.
When buying a Pilates mat, be sure to select a mat that rolls up. Closed cell foam mats are known to be the most durable and useful for Pilates movements
