Although
many people buy extra long yoga mats for the purpose of having more
room to move around, there are other benefits also associated with
having these kinds of mats.
One of the benefits of long yoga mats is the fact that they tend
to be thicker than a normal yoga mat would be. This makes these mats
great for people who have bad backs, knees, or ankles. The extra long
mats tend to have a bit more “bounce” in them. This is
helpful in Ashtanga and other strenuous, fast-moving types of yoga.
One of the considerations when using long yoga mats is if it will
be a hindrance or a help. If you perform yoga in an area that is wide
open and has plenty of space, then these long mats should be helpful.
However, if you take a class in a studio that has limited space, the
long yoga mats could prove to be difficult for others to maneuver
around because it is taking up more space than the other mats.
Typically, the people who use long yoga mats are taller than six
feet.
